MediaLoep explores the efficient and easy retrieval of audiovisual material. The project aims to increase the volume of qualitative metadata by capturing and structuring the available data during the production process. MediaLoep will also explore how the search in audiovisual collections can be improved. This leads to more and accurate search results increasing the efficiency and productivity of the program staff.
The study consists of test applications and tools, techniques, recommendations and guidelines. The results will be communicated to the Flemish and international media sector by means of publications, transfer of knowledge, reports and workshops.

An efficient search environment requires 3 levels:

Information sources: The first stage of the project examines how the available amount of information (metadata) of audio and audiovisual data can be increased in a computerized way.
Information storage: Several aspects for structured storage of different information sources are examined, with emphasis on the flexibility, the level of expansion and proportion of the information storage system.
Index and search application: The creation of an optimized screen search index is essential for the opening-up of information. A ready-made proof-of-concept-search application has been developed for the production staff. The obtained expertise allows search application developers to formulate concrete and usable advice. The construction of an index will be examined taking into consideration the nature of the material and the intended use.
