VRT-medialab in collaboration (IBBT/ISBO) with IBBT/IBCN

The IP System Architecture (IPSA) project was launched in 2009 as a result of the arrival of digital television, the increase of the network bandwidth and the growing success of HD en 3D television.

IPSA2 is based upon the results of the IPSA project and sets out the following objectives:

• Merge the technological state-of-the-art knowledge of two different disciplines ; the media-environment of a broadcasting company on the one hand and the IP/Data Center Ethernet-network related field of traditional IT-industry on the other hand.
• Offer insight and answers on data-based media production issues to the media industry
• Study the results, advantages and opportunities of generic storage clusters as new paradigm in media production infrastructure
• Study the behaviour of media traffic over Ethernet-based client –and storage networks and optimize the application of recent Ethernet technologies (such as Data Center Ethernet – DCE) in this area.

In the frame of the project research is done into the feasibility of media-application on WARP-cluster cloud architecture and into the opportunities of non-linear editing on generic media storage clusters with different software suites.
