Llingo at AntwerpCALL2010

Posted on 07/09/2010

GuidedChat is a working title for the game concept we developed with the project partners in the scope of Llingo. The main idea is to use crowdsourcing to add more realistic interactions to a database of conversations. The conversationsystem allows for dialogues to branch and evolve. A social rating system aims to provide you only with relevant suggestions and recommendations as well as rating your submissions. Your progress in language learning can be monitored by teachers, community feedback and automated checking.
To spice it up an and make it fun, a game element is added. your character has to evolve by getting engaged in more dialogues. Choosing a specific path can cost you more but can be an investment that will be rewarded later in the game. Different types of game mechanics still need to be integrated, we’re working on that.

You can check out the first prototype at http://1.guidedchat.appspot.com A small warning though, this is pre-alpha software demonstrating a small part of the final concept. You could be very disappointed. But still give it a try if you feel adventurous!

The slides we presented at AntwerpCALL2010 are available here. You need a very recent browser to display them, because we needed to demonstrate certain concepts only available in recent webkit browsers (chrome, safari) but recent firefox versions will deal with it too.
