At the exhibition, VRT-medialab is demonstrating how intelligent analysis of existing information in file-based production workflows can result in the creation of new consumer-applications without imposing any additional burden on the production processes.

Most broadcasters distribute several news bulletins daily, containing a limited number of items and restricted in duration. While this is suitable for conventional broadcast, it doesn’t meet the expectations of news consumers using alternative channels (eg, internet) or devices (eg, handhelds). Furthermore, the vroadcaster discards a lot of material that doesn’t fit the conventional news format. VRT-medialab is demonstrating a proof-of-concept application enabling a news consumer to compose and consume his own personalised news bulletin. He can select and sort his preferred news categories, choose to receive material that was not yet broadcast, limit the duration and watch the news offline. This is realised by analysing existing information (like NewsML-G2) and without changing production processes.

This demonstration was created in collaboration with our IBBT-partners as part of the PISA project.
